After departing Jamestown we travelled along the Colonial Memorial Parkway. It is a very pretty drive and there are several bridges such as this one that dot the roadway.
It was on October 19, 1781, in Yorktown, Virginia, the British forces surrendered to George Washington, effectively ending the Revolutionary War and ushering in the early days of the United States.
The foreshore of Yorktown has a nice beach and a great view of passing ships.
There are some beautiful homes to be seen in this city.
It was very busy when we arrived and needed up staying at a B&B. Little did we know we were going to be staying at the Hornsby House which was built in 1934 and is managed by 3 of their grandfather's children. The home has remained in the family.
The home is magnificent.
It is surrounded by stately homes.

From our window we could see the monument to the Alliance and Victory over England in the war for Independence.
Our reason for traveling to VA in particular to Chesapeake was to spend time with Chuck and Robyn. Chuck, USMC (Ret) worked with us at AMUSA. We had a wonderful evening at their home where we discovered that Chuck is an excellent chef.
Chuck and Robyn live in a magnificent home.
They live in a very nice subdivision.
We had a great time in VA. We met vey nice people, enjoyed good food and walked back in time to the beginning of the USA.
