North Carolina / South Carolina

North Carolina, which was at one time combined with South Carolina to form a single territory, was one of the original 13 colonies and became the 12th state in 1789. It sent most troops to fight in the Civil War as part of the Confederacy before it was readmitted into the Union in 1868.

This was our first trip to NC which is a most impressive State to visit. The reason for our trip was to visit with dear friends. We left our RV in SC and used the jeep to visit with friends both here and VA. Initially we stayed a couple of days at the Marriott , in Cary and enjoyed a couple of rest days. Across the road from the hotel were some restaurants and we took the opportunity to have lunch at Warsabi, an Asian restaurant. The food below are examples of the food they served there.

Another day we had lunch at the MacGregor Draft House. Ross who really enjoys draft cider decided on having a glass with lunch. Suddenly a gentleman approached us with a $5 note to pay for the drink and introduced himself as the owner of Bold Hard Cider Company. We spoke for sometime and he shared with us that he and his wife had lived in NZ for 10 years where they had a small farm running sheep and minature ponies. They have also had several trips to AU and not necessarily the big cities.

Its a small world after all.

On the way back to the hotel we had to stop and admire the 6 Maserati's, and Audi, top BMW suv and a Lexus.

Seems like there is a bit of money in this area.

Then it was time to visit with our friends who welcomed us into their beautiful home.

For our AU friend's this is what a kitchen should look like.

We had fantastic dinners at this table.

Our creative chiefs Lesli and Jim. This is the largest piece of salmon we had ever seen and it was delicious.

Jim and Leslie live in a beautiful housing estate and this an example of the homes located in this area.

A short distance from their home is Bass Lake. Bass Lake Park is home to many species of native plants and animals which can be viewed along beautiful nature trails.

It was a real joy to visit with Jim , Leslie, Lily and Thomas. They made us so very welcome. We enjoyed good conversation, excellent food, delicious wines and it was sad to say goodby. We hope to meet again soon and thank them so much for making us so welcome.

We returned to Florence South Carolina where we left our RV after visiting with our friends.

We depart on Sunday to Greensboro NC then onto the Great Smokey Mountains where we intended to spend time last September however, returned to AU instead. Following this we are off to Nashville as we wind our way back to San Antonio. Yes we are Global Gypies and hope to enjoy this lifestyle for some years to come.
