Flafstaff - Pt (2)

Christmas Eve we had dinner at Red Lobster which was just across the road from where we were staying.  There was heavy snow falling so it was safer to stay close to home.  We enjoyed wood fire grilled talapia which is always delicious.

The snow is easily visible outside the restaurant and Ross had been watching an unfortunate driver whose car decided to stop permanently at the traffic lights.

When we returned back to our hotel room we saw a father with his young son making a snow man.

Christmas morning we woke up to this screen.

It was fun to see the creativity of some.

Christmas day.

We enjoyed a most enjoyable Christmas dinner at the Heritage listed Bungalow, Josephine's Modern American Bistro.

 The food was delicious.

Restaurant is very nice inside.

Cheers to all and a very Merry Christmas.

Flafstaff, AZ.- 2016 -Pt (1)

Flagstaff is a city in northern Arizona in the southwestern United States and has a population of some 139,097.   Its 7.000 ft above Phoenix and its a very nice place to visit and in particular to spend Christmas.  It has been 20 years since we last visited Flagstaff and at that time we have very little experience of driving in the snow.  My how our life has changed.  We arrived just before Christmas and we could see the snow clouds starting to form.  Flagstaff is part of Route 66.

Snow clouds forming.

The temperature started to drop.  On Christmas eve at 3 pm the temperature was 32 F and we were off to church.

The snow was just starting to fall.

We attended the Christ Church which was full of joy and song.

Following the one hour service the temperature had fallen to 28 F

We walked out of church into a snow storm.

We arrived back at the hotel to enjoy the beauty of the snow covered trees.

It's so pretty.

Phoenix - AZ

Phoenix is the anchor of the Phoenix metropolitan area, also known as the Valley of the Sun, which in turn is a part of the Salt River Valley. The metropolitan area is the 12th largest by population in the United States, with approximately 4.3 million people as of 2010.
Settled in 1867 as an agricultural community near the confluence of the Salt and Gila Rivers, Phoenix incorporated as a city in 1881. Located in the northeastern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix has a subtropical desert climate.  The canal system has ensured a thriving farming community, many of the original crops remaining important parts of the Phoenix economy for decades, such as alfalfa, cotton, citrus, and hay.   Following World War II, high-tech industries began to move into the valley and air conditioning made residences much more comfortable in the very hot summers.
You have all seen our RV and below is the engine room of our home on wheels.

It is easy walking around the area of Tempe where we stayed in our RV.

Downtown Phoenix has tall buildings and wide roads.

This is its County Court house.

There are variety of trees which line the streets.

 The Roadrunner.

Ross enjoying a walk along a tree lined street.

After walking around the city it was time for lunch and whilst there are several breweries dotted around the city and we decided to check out  the Pedal Haus Brewery.

We were not disappointed and enjoyed a late lunch of Lunch of Mussels in Pedal Haus Wit, Herbs, Garlic , Rustic Bread, as well as The Mediterranean Platter with Roasted Garlic Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Dolmades,Olives,Feta, Pita. This was accompanied by a selection of beers & wine. It was all delicious.  Ross said "was the best I have ever been to, has everything plus a great menu."

The brewery is huge and following are some photos of the place which provides and idea of the size of it.

The brewery is surrounded by water fountains .

With rabbits looking on.

They have a great light rail system which for oldies like us for $1 each you can get a day ticket and travel as far as the train will take you and can hop on and off as much as you like.

It is clean and efficient.

It caters for the bike riding public.

It is well advertised.

Walking around the city you come across some interesting things such as the Gold Stars from movie stars of the past.

Tomorrow we take our Jeep to Flagstaff for Christmas.  Flagstaff is a 3 hours travel from Phoenix and is 7,000 feet  higher.

More to follow.
