Old Town Museum - Burligton, Colardo

Old Town Museum is set on 61/2 acres and embodies "Life in the Past Lane".   It includes 21 restored buildings wih authenic artifacts from the turn of the century.

This is the Methodist - Episcopal Church was built from donations of the community.  It orginally served Armel, CO.  The church is unique  because of its sloping floor an metal ceiling.  The Last Supper was crocheted in 1952 and still hangs in the original place.  

The church houses its original pulpit, minister's chair, communior set, attendance record and the pews that are on the platform.  It is still used for weddings today.

Some of the buildings include The District Justice of the Peace and it is set up inside ith the tools of the trade in the day.

The Barber Shop.

It served a wide variety of services.  A bath anyone.

Ladies hair styling.

A  Slave Comb was used in the early 1800s.  It was heated in the fire and when hot was combed through the hair to straighten it.  The comb has a brass fitting, whih made it one of the nicer Slave Combs.

A shave anyone.

A Sod House.  These were an economic and quick way to build a house on a new homestead.  The building began with plowing up the sod with a sod cutter that was pulled behind a team of horses.   Each slabwas 4  inches thick by 18 inches long.  These slabs were placed grass side down since the grass served as mortar.  The walls are two foot thick and serve as a good insulation and a strong windbreak.

The stove inside is a Windsor cook stove.  Coal was expensive, so buffalo or cow chips were used.  The mattress on the bed is made of corn husks.

Kit Carson Country Carousel - Burlington, Colarado

We visited the Kit Carson Country Carousel, also known as Philadephia Toboggan Company Corousal # 6.  In fact it has several names.  Its located in the County Fairgrounds.

There are many buidings that are used when the fair is in full swing.

They also have a good sense of humour and this sign located on the building.

The Carousel is housed in a large building and on this day there were workers touching up the painting of the wooden carousel.

Of the 2,500 wooden Carousels carved in America between 1885 and the 1930s  fewer than 150 are still in existence.  One of the finest is this Carousel. 
This Carousel is a tree - row, stationary ( the animals do not move up and down) machine housed in a 12- sided  frame building.  It is the only antique carousel  in America still having the original paint on scenery panels and on animals.

PTC # 6 is the only surviving menagerie (having other animals in addition to horses) and is fully operational.

It is on the National Historic Register and is truly magnificant.

Firestone, Colardo

We needed to find a Chase Bank and closest one was at Firestone about a 2 hours drive north from our RV Park.   So after a visit with a banker we found a great restaurant to have lunch.   It was called the Maya Grill and Cantina.

We enjoyed Spicy Shrimp to start with.

 Followed by a beef fajita which is served with peppers and onios.

Other sides includes refried beans with cheese, gucamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and lettuce.

It is served tortas, which are keep warm in a container such as this.  We prefer flower tortilla  however, many prefer corn tortillas.

Ross enjoyed a coronarita which is a margarita with a beer.

Strasburg , Colorado

Strasburg is a small town on the way through Colorado.  On Sunday we attended the Presbyterian Church.  The congregation and the Pastor were so welcoming and presented us with a welcome package which was so kind of them.

 In the RV Park there are lots of little bunnies who came to visit.

During our travels we see some amazing RV's and in this RV Park our friends arrived in a 45 ft ,5th Wheel.   It has 2 patios and an ice machine which makes 15 lbs a day.   

It also has a ramp for their dog.

 The RV Park aslo has a restaurant which is great.

Yesterday we shared a late lunch at the Family BBQ restaurant .  We enjoyed brisket with coleslaw,corn and the best ever baked beans.  

This was followed by lemon meringue pie.

Whilst we were enjoying our food outside there was dust storm.

Revisting places we have been to before.

Our next stop was Fort Collins, Colorado.  This was our third visit to this pretty city and is a   a Liberal State ( Leftist) and it happens to have many stores which sell cannabus.  So we purchased legally some products to rub onto our arthritic joints.   The lotion great and the cannabus is mixed with mango butter, shea butter and arnica.  We also bought a wax application and Ross had to try the chocolate cookie.   Non of these products are mind bending but provide medical medisinal relief to aching joints.

The City is very pretty.

 With small lanes in the city centre.

Throughout the city there are pianos located around the city and they still make music.

 A cool place to enjoy the water.

 The RV park we stayed at was a resort and offered lots of activities.   This is were the water activites start from.

There is a beautiful lake where they have paddle swans rides that can be taken out on the lake.   We tried this and it was fun.

There are bouncing castles and so much more which over the school holidays many children wild away many hours of fun.

We had a game of minigolf.

 Whilst in the city we enjoyed a great lunch at a new restaurant called Next Door.

We enjoyed siracha shrimp.

 Also balsamic beets and spicy lemon calamarie.  All was very tasty.

Fort Collins is a fun place to visit.
