Kerrville - Pt 5

Kerrville is a pretty town and very historic. The name Scheiner is on display in many places in this city. Captain Charles Schreiner 1838-1927 was an enterprising businessman, born in France. He moved to to the USA in 1852 with his parents. He served with distinction in the Texas Rangers, 1854 - 1857. Fought with the Confederacy in the Cival War. In 1869 he began a general store in Kerrville. His activities expanded to include banking , ranching and marketing wool and mohair. He also started one of the first wool and mohair warehouses in Texas. By 1900 he owned 600,000 acres of land and by 1945 his country store below was one of the most progressive in the South West.

The Schreiner Mansion today is a venue for social activities and conferences. Captian Schreiner was a philantropist who gave to the community this mansion as well as the Schreiner Univerity as he was heavily invested in his hometowm of Kerrville.

Another historic site is the Guthrie Building which has been in use since 1887. Its one of the oldest buildings in Kerr County. It is named for the newspaper publisher Robert Guthrie, who was born im Scotland where generations of his family ran a newspaper. Over the many years it has been a newspaper however inbetween was used for a variety of other uses such as government use. Today it is back to being a newspaper.

There are many eating establisment.

Its also the home of James Avery who is a well know jeweller in TX. The Heart stands for "Giving is what it's all about" Much of his jewelley has this as part of his range.

The Kerrvillians are so confident that they display the State of Texas upside down.

It has been a great stay and tomorrow we travel to Ft Stockton.

Kerrville - Cowboy Steak House - Pt 4

The Cowboy Steakhouse is located downtown Kerrville. Its been in business for 30 years and is well worth dinning there.

The food was delicious and the service was very friendly.

It is a very large restuarant.

It has a wide range of spices and sauces.

Nice atmosphere.

Lots of oil paintings on the many walls of the restaurant.

Lots of cowboy memorabilia.

Many etched glass room devides.

And huge cakes.

It was a fun evening.

Kerrville - Buckhorn RV Park- Pt 3.

Buckhorn RV park is a favourite spot of ours. All sites have hard standing and it has lots of great facities. It provdes over 200 sites.

Within this RV park there is the opportunity to lease 'barndominioms'. These are small units which the leasee is able to furnish. It provides the opportunity to park your RV on the side and comes with complete hook ups. The surroundings are well kept.

Within the park proper there are many magnificant RV's. Such as this RV has a hydraulic lift on the back for a compulsory Harley. Followed by a Toyota Tacoma.

Now this is a truck.

Another huge RV.

We also had the opportunity to catch up with dear friends Wanda and Randy Reynolds. We had a most enjoyable time together at the Alamo Cafe. Its located in the middle of nowhere. It has great food and is a very popular place to eat.

There is nothing like a beautiful Texas sunset.

Sculpture Prayer Garden- Kerryville- Pt 2

'The Coming King' The Sculpture Prayer Garden came about following a vision by Max Greiner who had a vision for a garden filled with sculpture, not to promote art but to promote Jesus Christ.

Kerrville - Texas - Pt 1 - Stonehenge 11

Kerrville is a town in the Texas Hill country some 21/2 hours west of San Marcos. There is lots to see and do. It is the home of Stonehenge 11. This structure came about when, in 1989, a local resident ended up with a space limestone slab. He gave this too a mate who had seen the original in the UK. It took 9 months to build and is 90% as wide and 60% as tall as the original.

The statue in front of Stonehenge11 is a replica of those seen in Easter Island.

Both are guarded by a cat.

The surrounding area is very pretty.

Following our visit we enjoyed lunch which was very inexpensive.

Whilst dinning we enjoyed watching the humming birds feed.

On the way back to the RV we stopped off at Specs, a liquor store where we found a large cigar room.

San Marcos - Texas

San Marcos is a city some 25 miles north of San Antonio, Texas. It is the home of outlet malls and Texas State University. There is lots to see and do in this area. We started our RV trip staying in the Peacan Park RV Park. It's our go to park before we empark on our adventure. The park is situated on the banks of the San Marcos River which flloods during hurrican season. It is a pretty park with lots of trees which takes out our satelite so its back to cable.

Its a pretty time of the year as the trees shart to bloom.

It's a very large RV park.

Just a 5 minute drive from our RV is a winery which provides a great vista while enjoying a Texas Red. Whilst their wines have improved over the years they are not a patch on Australian reds.

We took the opportunity to go to the movies before departing. This movie theater not only provided the movie but a full bar with food. This food and beverage is also offered in the therater.
