Yesterday we travelled to Cades Cove that is located in the Smoky Mountains. The terrain has relatively flat valleys between mountains or ridges. This particular cove has some of the most inspirational natural and cultural treasures that the Southern Appalachian Mountains has to offer. The drive through the National Park in 11 miles, one way. There are several areas to pull off the road to view the majesty of the surroundings be this the scenery or the many animals who call this park their home.
The drive to Cades Cove is very pretty.
The flowing steams attract tourists to get out an enjoy time sitting on the rocks.
Following are some shots of the beauty of nature.
When you get to a clearing the ever present Smoky Mountains are in view.
We were fortunate to get up close and personal with a black bear. You are advised to stay 15 feet away. This fellow did no care he just came across the road in front of about 20 tourists.
He scampered into the woods. Beverley was very close to the bear and would have got a great shot if her cell phone had not had a hissi fit.
Cades Cove was originally a farming community and throughout the park there are original church and homes. This is the Methodist Church which was built in 115 days for $ 115.
We never tire of driving through this beautiful area. Here is a dogwood tree starting to bloom.
We came back to Pigeon Forge via Gatlinburg and the drive takes you thought beautiful scenery and old bridges.
It was time for lunch so we stopped at the Texas Steak House in Pigeon Forge for lunch. Beverley had the steak which was delicious.
Ross couldn't say no to the ribs which he thoroughly enjoyed.
It was a great day.
Cheers,
Beverley and Ross
