One of the many reasons to come back to Savannah was not only to see more of this pretty city but to also spend some quality time with our dear friends Regina and Jim. We have been friends since 1997and have the opportunity to spent several days together on this trip. Yesterday we enjoyed lunch at Vic's On the River Restaurant. The restaurant is located on River Street.
In 1858, John Stoddard commissioned this building to be designed and built by John Norris, a famous New York architect. In 1859, it was used a warehouse in the early days when cotton was a major crop of the area. During the Civil War General Sherman's lesser officers used this building's empty offices for housing and planning space. Located on the wall in the main dining room is part of a hand drawn map by soldiers which details Sherman's March from Tennessee through Georgia. It was discovered in 1901 during renovation and is now preserved for all to see.
It was a great lunch.
The city is made up of Squares some 26 in all, each with its own story.
On another day we lunched a Bohemiam Hotel. It is located on the top floor of the hotel and has a restuarant called The Rocks on the Roof.
From here you can enjoy views of the river.
Or of the city.
The light coverings are all made from oyster shells.
This was a great spot to enjoy a bite of lunch. Ross enjoyed the Butchers Platter and Beverley, the Tomato Burrata. Both were delicious to eat.
We also enjoyed Crawfish and Shrimp with our next door RV neighbours on Easter Sunday.
Ross was also able to enjoy some classy automobiles.
As our time is coming to an end in Savannah we have enjoyed the sights and foods of this beautiful city, It has been such fun to have time with out dear friends. On Friday we depart for Florence , South Carolina.
Cheers,
Beverley and Ross.
