Rapid City - South Dakota- Part 1

It was just over one year ago that we first visited Rapid City.  It is a very pretty city with very friendly people.

We had such a nice meal last year at Talley's Silver Spoon Restaurant where we enjoyed an indecision meal, which means you leave it up to the chief to feed you.  So we booked again and enjoyed another indecision dinner and we were not disappointed.

On each corner of the downtown there is a statue of significance and Ronald Reagan shares this corner with the restaurant.

We started off with a shrimp dish which combined traditional scrimp coupled with scrimp dumplings with a deconstructed sauce.

This was followed by the most tender lamb, with purple potatoes, peas, sundried tomatoes, carrot accompanied by a sherry cream sauce.

Dessert was death by chocolate.  It was all delicious.

Earlier in the day we visited downtown.  There were many Farmers Markets and entertainment. We were fortunate to see some Native American traditional dancing.

Last year we visited Mount Rushmoore, Yellowstone, Little Bighorn,  Bear Country and The Grazy Horse Monument.  When it is finished Crazy Horse it will be the largest Monument in the USA.  The Native Americans are raising the money for it without the use of Government grants.  This is what it will look like when completed.

Close by where we are staying The Chapel in the Hills is located.

It is magnificant.  It is a very popular location for weddings.  It is made of wood and displays  outstanding workmanship.

Behind the Church, deer feel very comfortable just to graze.

The museum is a log cabin built in 1876 by Edward Nielson who was a Norwegian immigrant gold prospector.  You can read more about him below.

The Museum.

The cabin holds Scandinavian antiques.

Rapid City is a great place to visit.

Cheers, Beverley and Ross
