Baker City - OR

Baker City is in Orgeon and was named after Edward D. Baker, the only US Senator ever killed in combat.   It has a population of  some 10,000 people.  So after a nice brunch at the Lone Pine Cafe we enjoyed a walk around this pretty city.
The Cafe was interesting.  It offers the patrons the opportunity to select their favouite vynl record and have it played on a record player.   The fellow sitting next to us had Whyatt Yokom playing. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly.

The record player with lots of records to choose from.

This is the Geiser Grand Hotel, built in 1889.  The Hotel's underground tunnels which once hid illegal alcohol and led to the City's brothels.  Like many old hotels it has had and interesting past including the sighting of ghosts.  However, in 1993 the Sidways bought the hotel and spent 4 years and US$7million renovating it.

It has been restored beautifully.

The city has relicas of wildlife.

After stopping and sampling some different vodkas we found a wine tasting shop.

They serve both cheese and wine.

This is the City Hall.

The Baker Tower.

Beautiful churches.

Cheers,
Ross and Beverley
