Mobile is a port city on Alabama’s Gulf Coast with a population of some 200,000. The race and ethnicity of the population is 51.1% African American, 43.7% Caucasians, 1.4% Asians, mostly from Vietnam, 1.2% mixed, and 0.2% other. It is also known as the City of Six Flags, for the flags that have flown over it - the French King flag, The British Union Jack, the Spanish flag, the US flag, the Republic of Alabama flag of 1861 and the flag of the Confederate States of America.
It is also the home of Mardi Gras.
They are so serious about this they have a Carnival Museum.
The Park has statues of the King and Queen of the parade.
The fellow who started it all- Mr Hack.
There are many beautiful homes throughout the city.
The Oak trees provide a canopy to the streets.
Dotted throughout are monuments to War Heroes.
After our tour it was time for lunch. We had a delightful meal at the Royal Scam Restaurant. We finished with a peanut butter cheese cake. It was delicious.
More to follow.
Cheers,
Beverley and Ross
