2017, A Year of Major Change

It has been a year since our last post on this blog and what a year of change it has been for us.

We spent the first 6 months of '17 working down at the two EMS locations along the border with Mexico (Eagle Pass and Laredo) and in the second half of the year a corporate decision was made to close the Aspen Medical USA operation in Texas down.

So, in August we made the difficult decision to sell our Texas house and move back to the Canberra area.

By late August we had sold all our furniture, the house and and the Mini Cooper, then moved into our RV in a great location in San Marcos TX.

Our plan was to live in the RV until we flew back to Australia mid September. Then came
hurricane "Harvey" which forced us to evacuate the park and move to a local convention center for protection.

Because of major damage to the whole area just about all the RV parks were closed for repairs so we decided to put ours back into secure undercover storage and moved to a local motel until we flew out on 14 September.

On arrival back we stayed with friends until our house became vacant and in November we were able to have our goods that had been in storage for 9 years delivered and are now settled back in to Jerrabomberra.

So having got through that we are now heading back to Texas next week to pick up the RV and continue traveling. This time we will head to Florida via the coastal route then move north to Savannah. After that the weather will determine our progress north but it is our aim to get up to Canada to see our friends in New Brunswick (even if we leave the RV in a park and take the Jeep up).

We plan to arrive back in Australia in June and while we are able and have the interest will spend each year divided between here and the US.

We have been blessed to have the opportunity to live overseas for 9 great years.  We have enjoyed experiencing other cultures and been able to travel to so many interesting places around the world.  Whilst our preference would have been to  continue to live in the USA we are settling back into being Australians once again.

Life is to short not to enjoy the opportunities provided to us.

Cheers Bev and Ross
