Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. The city is abundantly rich in water, with twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber, and today is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle, with Minneapolis proper containing America's fifth-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies. As an integral link to the global economy, Minneapolis is categorized as a global city. Noted for its strong music and performing arts scenes, Minneapolis is home to both the award-winning Guthrie Theater and the historic First Avenue nightclub, the latter of which helped launch the career of musical icon Prince.
Minneapolis' name is attributed to Charles Hoag, the city's first schoolteacher, who combined mni, a Dakota Sioux word for water, and polis, the Greek word for city. The total population of the two cities is some 700,000. We stayed in Saint Paul.
We visited the Mall of America which is the largest in the USA. It opened in 1992 and receives 40 M visitors annually, most of whom come from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, The Dakotas, Illinois, Ohio, and Canada. This Mall as well as the Edmonton Mall in Canada is owned and managed by same family who are Canadian.
The Mall has something for everyone. The lower level has everything for children and those who are risk takers.
The decor inside the shopping areas are very tastefully done. These lights were very elegant
There are many restaurants to choose from. We choose Bubba Gumps. We last ate at this Restaurant chain some yeas ago in Denver when we meet up with Trish and Murray and spent some time at the Terry Bison Ranch in Wyoming.
The margarita's were very good as well as the food.
Cheers, Beverley and Ross
